There is magic in the air

Yuletide season is once again upon us and there is a coolness everywhere, a kind of magic in the air. I remember when I was young and Christmas seemed to be the time for Christmas carols. This was the magic which I always remember feeling whenever November draws to a close and December is fast on its heels. Christmas carols always did it for me and the feeling is one of awe and wonder, as though it were something much, much bigger than me and that I would one day understand it all.

What would happen if magic were to disappear from our consciousness? If something beyond us and far greater and bigger than us were to become explainable and mundane, if magic were to disappear, what would become of our lives? Would it also cease to be wonderful? I remember feeling a kind of elation, a certain high as I gazed at the water below me, riding a bus home, past the city and all along the coast. I felt liberated, like I had just shed off some unwanted burden. I was not sure what it was but somehow I felt that a new chapter in my life was beginning. Was that magic?
